This is not just
another book on prayer, although obviously from the title, this is a book
on prayer. It’s also a book
about worship, and a book about wisdom, and a book about prophecy. The
word prophecy is even in red letters on the cover. I must confess that
when I first picked up this book, I was prepared to be disappointed; that
is, when reading books on prayer, prophecy, and topics like that, I have
learned not to expect too much. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Jim
Goll’s book is just about everything a book on prophetic intercession
should be. One of the problems
with the prophetic movement is that often the point is often lost; that
is, no one ever seems to talk about what you do with a prophetic word once
you have one. At times I envision God saying to Himself, “why do I even
bother?” This book solves that problem, and should be required reading
for everyone who hears from God, even if it’s just to read all of the
various prophetic words that float around the internet. Jim Goll could have
been titled “Practical Prophecy.” He effectively lays a Scriptural
foundation for the marriage of prophecy and intercession that is, once
again, surprisingly practical. He
even ends each chapter with a “Practical Applications” section, so we
can begin to put these truths to work. Again, if you have an
interest in the prophetic gifts, or a heart for prayer, and especially if
you don’t have either, this book is a must. |
